Step 1

Step 1: Assessment

Assessment

Prior to commencing therapy, 1-2 sessions are typically required to complete formal and informal assessments, to ensure we have all the necessary information to commence therapy.

The assessment procedure typically includes:

A discussion with parents or caregivers to gather detailed information about your child’s developmental milestones, speech, language, medical history, and school or learning experiences.

A formal and/or informal evaluation of your child’s current speech, language and/or feeding difficulties.

With consent, the Speech Pathologist may also reach out to other professionals involved in your child’s care to gather additional information.

Please note that if your child has had a Speech Pathology assessment within the last 12 months, we can use the results from the most recent report to set appropriate therapy goals alongside parents.

Step 2

Report

After completing the necessary assessments, you will receive a detailed report within 1-2 weeks which is charged at the hourly rate of the clinician.

This report will outline the speech, language and/or feeding skills assessed, your child’s performance in each area and provide a list of recommendations for therapy moving forward if necessary.

Step 2: Report

Step 3

Goal Setting

Following the completion of the assessments and report being provided, a feedback session will be offered to families and/or caregivers to allow for questions to be asked and goals to be established collaboratively.

Step 3: Goal Setting

Step 4

Therapy

If therapy is recommended, we will schedule an appointment depending on the family and clinicians’ availability. Typically, these will occur fortnightly, consisting of 45 minutes of face-to-face therapy and 15 minutes for preparation and clinician notes.

To ensure that progress is occurring, we will regularly review outcomes, assess goal achievement, and adjust the therapy plan as needed to ensure optimal outcomes.
